Professor Ardhendu Behera
Ardhendu Behera is a Professor of Computer Vision & AI and co-director/founder of the Intelligent Visual Computing Research Centre. His research focuses on deep learning, computer vision, and multimodal AI, with applications in automotive, defence and security, and healthcare domains. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the ongoing EPSRC-funded ATRACT project (A Trustworthy Robotic Autonomous system to support Casualty Triage), aimed at developing an advanced drone to assist and accelerate triage during the critical post-trauma minutes that is crucial for improving battlefield survival rates.
As PI, he has led projects worth over £2M in the past three years, advancing AI-driven analysis of visual content, human behaviour, and activity recognition. He is a member of the British Computer Society, AAAI & IEEE, and a Fellow of HEA UK. Prof Behera is an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and has published high-quality journals/conference papers, many of which are interdisciplinary. He has delivered keynotes and is involved in various outreach activities. His pioneering research in dementia monitoring, integrating social robotics and multimodal AI, has been featured by global media, including BBC News, The Times, The Sun, ITV, and more.
